With the advancement in computing power, including machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, genetic algorithms and computational creativity (to name a few), it seems that the AI has evolved from something simple to machines which are fully aware of themselves.
Here we give the concepts of what artificial intelligence is now and what it hopes to become.
TYPE I – REACTIVE MACHINES
This is the most basic form of Artificial Intelligence. It perceives its environment/situation directly and acts on what it sees. It has a wider world concept. It has no memories nor can it make decisions based on past experience. It specializes in only 1 area.
Alpha Google Go triumphed over a human in the championship Go.
IBM’s Deep Blue beat Kasparov in chess.
TYPE II – LIMITED MEMORY
Further up the evolutionary ladder of Artificial Intelligence is the limited memory. AI considers such pieces of information of the past and adds to its pre-programmed world representations. It has enough memory or experience to make appropriate decisions and execute right actions.
Chatbots. personal digital assistants.
TYPE III – THEORY OF MIND
AI Type III has the ability to understand thoughts and emotions that affect human behavior. This type, which may comprise feelings, motives, intentions, expectations and can interact socially, has not yet been built. However, it is very likely to be the next class of intelligent machines that we see out there.

TYPE IV – SELF-AWARENESS
This type of artificial intelligence can form representations of themselves. As an extension of the theory of mind, they are aware of their internal state, can predict the feelings of others, make inferences and abstractions. They are the future generation of machines, super intelligent, sensitive and aware.
