What is the Main Cause of Mesothelioma ?
Read about some of the main possible causes of mesothelioma.
Exposure to asbestos is the main possible cause of Mesothelioma. Asbestos is a mineral made up of silica, magnesium, lime and ferrous oxide – is the main cause of mesothelioma and its carcinogenic property is well known. In humans, it proved that the risk is proportional to exposure to this mineral. Those working in mines and workers in the shipping industry, construction, textiles, and plumbers, are at the highest risk of mesothelioma. Currently, there are various court cases and associations of victims claiming compensation for those affected by its use.
Asbestos is a very strong material. The problem arose when products made with asbestos wear out; they release dust into the air.
History of Asbestos : Main Cause of Mesothelioma
These asbestos fibers fly in the air, and when breathed, they get inserted into the lining of the lungs and other organs. Once there, they cause inflammation in these tissues, and in the long run, turn into an aggressive malignant tumors. Those working in an asbestos exposure environment were deliberately asked to disturb the asbestos: cutting sheets containing asbestos, filling sacks with asbestos cement; under construction, or drilling asbestos roofs.
The damage done to workers, families, and people living in areas surrounding the factories is so great that many scholars have labeled asbestos exposure as a “genocide.”
