Rajeev Motwani – The Man Behind Creation of Google

Rajeev Motwani (1962-2009) was an Indian-American computer scientist and professor. He was born in Jammu, India, and obtained his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the IIT Kanpur. He later moved to the United States for further studies, earning his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1988.

Motwani was a renowned expert in the field of algorithms and data mining. He made significant contributions to the development of randomized algorithms and worked on various topics, including web search algorithms, graph algorithms, and streaming algorithms. Motwani’s research played a fundamental role in the early stages of Google’s search engine development.

Apart from his academic pursuits, Motwani was also an influential mentor and advisor to numerous entrepreneurs and startups in Silicon Valley. He was known for his support and guidance to Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the co-founders of Google, during their early years at Stanford University. Motwani served as a professor of computer science at Stanford University and was highly regarded by his students and colleagues.

Tragically, Rajeev Motwani passed away in 2009 at the age of 47 due to accidental drowning. His contributions to computer science and his impact on the tech industry continue to be recognized and appreciated to this day.
