A Robotic Slime that can enter your Body

Hong Kong, China – The robot slime, with magnetic properties can adapt to any surface, is used to catch objects and could enter the human body

Until now, toy slime, also known as slime , had been used to play games. However, a team of scientists from the University of Hong Kong (China) has given it a new use. The project, published in the Wiley Online Library magazine , involves a slime-like robot with magnetic properties, controlled by external magnetic fields which can be programmed. It is an extremely soft robot, which can be inserted into the human body, can moves like the famous children’s slime did, stretch, compress and move at the will of the researcher, who will be able to control it from the outside thanks to its magnetic properties.

The robot is made from neodymium, iron and boron (NdFeB) and borax, which is used for detergents or pesticides, plus polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) which has adhesive properties.

Slime can squeeze through tight spots as small as 1.5 millimeters in diameter, or through watery or dry environments. This slime could be used in both electronics and biomedicine.

In electronics, it can catch loose wires or tie them together, along with many other uses. In biomedicine, it could catch objects that have been accidentally swallowed without undergoing surgery.

The magnetic particles in the slime are coated with silicone to make them safe for the body, but it has not yet been proven whether these substances leak out of the slime.
