Renault Trezor: Most Stylish Electric Car of the Future

Who said electric cars could never embody passion and excitement? Renault is taking its design language in a new direction and demonstrates it with its impressive concept GT Renault Trezor.

The Trezor follows in the footsteps of the 2010 DeZir concept, which introduced the style that is now used in many current Renault models. Like the DeZir, the Trezor will not go into production, although the DNA of its design will be transmitted to the future models of the French manufacturer. It encompasses the shapes that the cars will have to come.

Trevor’s shape, design and color choices are meant to evoke the feelings of love and passion, hence the widespread use of red everywhere. If the shape of the car seems to resemble an animal, and it’s no accident. If you approach the computer-designed carbon fiber body, you will notice that it resembles the skin of a snake. The Trezor is all technology, but also power and aggression.

The Trezor adopts the proportions of classic sports cars. The cabin is after a long chest, so long that anyone would suppose that there underneath there is a huge combustion engine, not an electric one. In addition to being long, the Trezor is wide and low, with only 42.5 inches of total height. Its sleek design helps contribute to an impressive aerodynamic coefficient of 0.22.

As far as its propulsion system is concerned, Renault uses an electric motor and a regenerative braking system based on the hardware of its Formula E racing vehicles. The engine sends 350 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels, getting it to go from 0 to 62 mph in less than four seconds, according to Renault. The Trezor uses a carbon fiber cabin with tubular steel frames, attached to the front and rear, which helps maintain a weight of 1,600 kilograms (3,527 pounds).

Instead of conventional doors, the roof of the Trezor rises to allow access to a two-seater cabin. The dashboard consists of a large curved OLED screen made of Gorilla Glass, with tactile control controls in most functions. The Trezor can move by itself, and when in the auto-driving mode, the steering wheel lowers and provides a clearer view of the screen.

While the Trezor is just a prototype, many of its elements will be seen in Renault production vehicles, including some styling cues and auto-driving technology. And is that along with its partner Nissan, Renault wants that the autonomous systems are already available in the conventional models for 2020.
