AstraZeneca to be exempt from Coronavirus vaccine liability claims in most of the countries

vaccine liabilityAstraZeneca (LON: AZN), a London based Pharmaceutical company, has committed to supply supply more than two billion vaccines to countries including United States, the United Kingdom and other European countries.

On July 30th, 2020, AztraZeneca received protection against any future liability claims related to their covid-19 vaccine in most of the countries, reported Reuters.

In the face of immunizing millions of people against SARS-CoV-2 with a working product, the risk of claims for side effects is something the company cannot take, said a senior manager not identified by the news agency.

“This is a unique situation where we as a company simply cannot take the risk if in … four years the vaccine is showing side effects,” Ruud Dobber, who is a member of Astra’s senior executive team, told Reuters.

The company did not mention the countries that have agreed to assume the risk, which for the most part have considered it acceptable as it is a matter of “national interest”.
