17000 Prisoners to be released from Maharashtra Jails

May 12, 2020 – A High panel meeting decided to release 17000 prisoners from Maharashtra Jails which constitute 50% of the prisoners in the state. 

The Maharashtra government has decided to temporarily release 17,000 prisoners to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in jails among inmates in jails. 

Maharashtra government has decided to reduce the crowd of prisoners in jails to prevent the spread of corona infection. Under this, it has been decided to give temporary release to about 50 percent of the prisoners from the state jails.

At present there are 35,239 prisoners in Maharashtra jails, according to this, about 17 thousand prisoners will be released from Maharashtra jails.
