On November 29, 1929, Richard E. Byrd (American Naval Officer and Explorer) made his historical flight over the South Pole. This was probably the first time that anyone attempted to flight over the Pole, and managed to come back successfully. He was also a recipient of the Prestigious Navy Cross, the second highest honor for valor given by the United States for his expedition. He was also pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics

Richard E. Byrd became famous in 1926 as the first man credited with flying to the North Pole. He undertook five expeditions and when he came back, he told things which were never heard before.
