The Benefits, Future and some Real Dangers of Artificial Intelligence

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be best described as a combination of algorithms embedded into an automated machine which will enable them have same level of “thinking intelligence” as that of human beings. It is deemed as one of the most important revolution in technology since computing was invented. The artificial intelligence is being projected change everything (and is doing in many industries).

There is no one definition accepted by all experts of what artificial intelligence means . First, because it is a new, changing and experimental science. And second, because we can’t even define exactly what human intelligence is …

In its simplest form, AI is the attempt to mimic human intelligence using a robot, or software . But it is a very vague concept, because there are many ramifications. Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig differentiated four types in 2009: systems that think like humans, such as artificial neural networks. Systems that act like humans, like robots. Systems that use rational logic, such as expert systems, and systems that act rationally, such as intelligent agents.

Although it is a concept that has become fashionable in recent years, artificial intelligence is not something new. 2,300 years ago Aristotle was already trying to turn the mechanics of human thought into rules, and since the time of Leonardo Da Vinci, sages have tried to build machines that behave like humans.

Some of the Existing Applications where ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is already being used are as given below:-

  • Smart assistants (like Siri and Alexa)
  • Disease mapping and prediction tools
  • Manufacturing and drone robots
  • Personalized, Optimized healthcare treatment recommendations
  • Conversational bots which are used for marketing and customer service
  • Robo-advisors for stock trading
  • Spam filters regularly used on existing email
  • Social media monitoring tools for dangerous content or false news
  • Song or TV show recommendations from Spotify and Netflix

Artificial Intelligence and Its Pros and Cons

While many are optimistic about the upcoming A.I many are in doubts since A.I age could mean loss of jobs on a massive scale for them in many business sectors.

The Fear of Job loss is one of the BIGGEST AREA OF CONCERN FOR MANY

Many companies and business experts are openly predicting that many of the jobs might disappear completely from the market in the coming 1-2 years.

Modern Existing Technologies which are somewhat identical to A.I Systems (but not A.I)

While Technology is making leaps in the progress of modern science. Many bionics limbs are now helping humans to get back to their normal lives and these bionic limbs have been a boon to those people who were injured or lost their limb in some accident or some disease.

A.I and its merger with Humans

A.I is now planning to merge with Humans taking this whole scenario to a much higher level than what we have previously seen with the bionic limbs.

Elon Musk (owner of Tesla) is working on Technology known as Neuralink in order to merge Humans with A.I. Elon Musk firmly believes that A.I is the biggest threat for the human race and in order to “Overcome” this problem he has invented this Neuralink to merge humans with A.I. While the purpose of Neuralink’s tech would be to help solve disabilities and restore motor function in those with disabilities.

Neuralink’s initial goal is to allow people with disabilities to regain, or replace, their missing functions. From an amputee who can move a robotic arm with his brain, to restoring the motor functions of a paralyzed patient, the company is envisioning many such great things.

“Brain ailments of all kinds, whether it’s an accident, or congenital or any kind of spinal disorder, we can solve that with a chip,” Musk said.

“Ultimately, we can do full brain-machine interfaces where we can achieve a sort of symbiosis with AI,” Musk said.

He also said that Neuralink “could help control hormone levels and use them to our advantage (enhanced abilities and reasoning, anxiety relief, etc.).”

What is the Definition of a Cyborg?

Definition of Cyborg as per Cambridge Dictionary: In science fiction stories, a creature that is part human and part machine

“Only time will tell how Humans race will benefit from these digital implants (which would owned and controlled by tech corporations) where some humans will turn into Cyborgs and  will have no control over these implants. Therefore, whether they benefit or not, these Cyborgs will have little control over them making them completely dependent on the company which installed them in the first place.”

The Impact of A.I Surveillance in China

While A.I must have been invented by its inventors for the benefit of mankind, but the way it has been implemented in CHINA is the area of concern for many citizens around the world. Many people now consider that A.I in China has reshaped into Digital Dictatorship where authorities are implementing 24/7 Surveillance of its citizens. From going to Toilets, to Sneezing on the roads everything is monitored/recorded in China’s Digital Dystopian Dictatorship culture. Further they have pushed country into social credit system where every moment of their citizen is monitored and their points in the “social credit system” gets deleted even if they do any minor offence like “arguing with someone on the street” or not parking your car in the designated slots at a mall.

  5G Technology and AI Technology

The 5G technology can transfer data at speeds of upto 20x times more than that of 4g. China launched one of the largest A.I Surveillance using the 5G Technologies on November 1, 2019. China installed more than 50,000 5G Towers to spread A.I Surveillance in every 50 city of the country. (5G Data source: Rcwireless.com)

Why some are protesting against 5G Technology in countries other than China?

The major concern for some of the people is the radiation from 5G towers which they consider as “detrimental to the health and environment (as no research has been conducted on the safety of 5G on humans)”.

  Some Real Dangers of A.I

  (A) Hacking of the A.I Systems  – No Computer System or Internet System is immune to hackers

There have been regular reports of even High security websites being breached and data stolen from them. There are multiple news and incidents where high security Govt Data was hacked into by Hackers from China. If this happens in case of A.I System which has 100% control over the City and its citizens, the results could be catastrophic to the scale which is beyond anyone’s imagination.

 (B) Digital Dictatorship

Countries where there are no democratic rights of citizen, implementing A.I can suppress the people to the extent where they are monitored from going to Toilets to sneezing on the roads. This is already happening in China

  (C) Malfunction or Error in the Judgement of the Advance A.I System

The third mode is the most dangerous side of the A.I where advanced A.I robots trained in military weapons start attacking each other either due to a malfunction in their physical state or in their programming (algorithmic) state. The Movie “Terminator” showed a similar problem where intelligent Robots in the future are shown in the movie attacking humans and other robots which were programmed to save humans. Now, if some of these Intelligent robots gain control over Nuclear facilities or any other similar facilities in any country, then it can result in a catastrophic outcome.

Some of the movies including “The Terminator (1984)” and “The Matrix (1999)” show how Advance Intelligent Robots try to take control over the Human Race.

Whether you AGREE or NOT, but A.I is surely coming your way.

The Real Question is “Are you Prepared?”
